DIVING INTO THE ART AND BRAND

Brand Tour
With the upcoming midterm, our Business English teacher Beryl asked us to take one step further from the brand to conduct professional introduction and speech in English. Therefore this time she took us to the Yuz Museum, No. 8 Bridge Creative Park and Tianzifang, going deep into the center of art and brand. Through those trips, we appreciate that all our teachers pay close attention to students' practical learning skills and familiarity with brands.

Yuz Museum
GUCCI “The Artist Is Present”

On October 11th, the exhibition “The Artist Is Present” launched by Maurizio Cattelan and GUCCI was opened at the Yuz Museum in Shanghai. The exhibition is to explore the originality of reproduction and appeal people to look at the originality of art in a new way. Themed as "copying is original”, the exhibition focused on various forms of appropriation, and questioned the supreme principles of "originality, authenticity, identity" in art. From the beginning, the exhibition attempted to bring people into a world of “appropriation”: the title “The Artist Is Present” was an appropriation of the exhibition “The Artist Is Present” launched by “Mother of Performance Art” Marina Abramovic at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in 2010. However, in the exhibition of Yuz Museum, the curator Morizio Carteran gave the name completely different content and meaning: originality, author authority as well as truth and false. That is the question he wanted to discuss.

Walking into the exhibition hall, we were immediately attracted by the dreamy, satirical or realistic but creative works. Listening to the detailed explanations of the staff, it is as if we were integrated to the critical mind of the artist. We could have new perspectives and thoughts in many ordinary sculptures, decorations, paintings and calligraphy in ordinary life scenes. And those novelty works, interesting and profound little movies allowed us to engage in particularly unique activities while exploring the world.

Shanghai No.8 Bridge Creative Park & Tianzifang:

No.8 Bridge Creative Park
After Yuz Museum, we came to the No. 8 Bridge Creative Park. As a bridge of communication between the professional creative consulting teams at home and abroad, No.8 Bridge undoubtedly provides students with more direct opportunities to see brands, new ideas and industrial parks. We had the freedom to visit the Creative Park according to our own plans for completing the course assignment. From the office area to the creative area and to the fashion lifestyle area, a concept of the creative industry was created in our mind after we literally saw it.

Speaking of the artistic creativity and entrepreneurship in Shanghai, one of the first things came into our mind is Tianzifang. So the students went there with the desire to explore various brands. A shop has attracted students with roasted and dried fruits and vegetables that closely matches the modern people's healthy eating concept; a small shop with 20 years history brings students to the previous world where they learned a lot. All students learned a great deal from the communication with the shop owners, their brand concepts and stories.

Every student cherishes those field trips because each opportunity is hard earned. The visit in art exhibition cultivated our sense of art; the visit to No.8 Bridge and Tianzifang enabled us understand the atmosphere in corporate brands and experience brand development. Altogether, students have an integrated understanding of art and business and advanced ability of development in relevant industries in the future. That afternoon, though very short, helps us to do better in both the course of Business English and future exploration of the goal in life. Immersed in the sea of art and brand, we believe the tree of our dream blossoms and fruits.
